Kavala – A city full of volunteers that want to play and exercise!
From the submission of the proposal “Europe is our playground” till the start of the project’s actions, Dimofelia has by its side a plethora of volunteers, clubs and organisations which contribute to both planning and implementing the actions and events of the project. The contribution of all these people was valuable, multifaceted and multi-dimensional during the composition of the proposal, the research, the recording of stories and the implementation of the five-day festival, and it is also expected to reinforce all future actions that are to be implemented.
Let’s meet some of them:
The Youth of Volunteerism and Development of Kavala is a group of volunteers that are active in the Municipality of Kavala in various areas. The biggest reward of the Youth of Volunteerism and Development of Kavala came in April 2013 from the Italian educational Institute of Athens, where the president of the National Youth Committee Mr. Armodios Drikos awarded them with the international prize ProArte 2012, themed “Volunteerism and Youth Development”, which aims at promoting the participation of youth in the prefectural and cultural development of the cities. The Youth of Volunteerism and Development of Kavala was assisted by the spontaneous participation of volunteers of a young or older age, who participated actively in the actions of the Festival.
Additionally, particularly significant is the contribution of the local clubs of the city. The Cultural and Sports Clubs of the Municipality of Kavala responded to all the invitations to be informed about the implementation of the programme. They actively participated to the research and recording of oral stories, the formation and implementation of the programme, the production process of promotional material for the programme of the festival and the diffusion of the programme in prefectural level.
Also important was the contribution of the Social Structures of Immediate Battle for Poverty of the Municipality of Kavala “Stirizo” (Support), which is part of the Business Programme “Human Resources Development”, and additionally, the Time Bank and Municipal Vegetable Garden, which offered their valuable help to both the recording of stories and the participation of demonstration events.
Moreover, particularly creative and, as always, unique, was the contribution of the Greek Guiding Association and Lyceum Club of Greek Women of Kavala with the themed game “From Ancient Olympia… to your neighbourhood” which was presented in the five-day festival, and their participation in the television spot for the promotion of the Festival.
Finally, the Greek Red Cross: Samaritans, Rescuers and Lifeguards Corp participated actively in all the actions of the project, like the recording of oral stories and the five-day Festival, with their daily presence at the locations of the events, to prevent and intervene in case of an emergency.
The voluntary contribution of simple citizens of the Municipality of Kavala in both recording and research, and carrying out of demonstrations proves that our city lives through volunteerism and for volunteerism.
